A main road was closed for more than two hours on Saturday (13) night following a crash between three cars.

Herts Police closed Redbourn Road after three cars collided near Punchbowl Lane at about 8.30.

A woman in her 20s sustained minor neck and shoulder injuries, but was discharged at the scene by the ambulance service, while the other drivers escaped uninjured.

The St Albans fire service was called to the incident because a car was thought to be smoking, but on closer inspection there was no fire.

Ringway attended the scene to clear up an oil spill and Police later re-opened the road following the clean up at about 10.45pm.

It’s always at this time of year that I begin to look up again. Winter somehow forces us to look down, maybe at our feet to make sure we’re avoiding the worst of the mud, but maybe also because the overcast skies have a way of dampening our gaze if not our spirits. But there is more to it than that for I find my eyes are actually drawn upwards, first by the skylark, rising higher and higher from the ground, pouring out its cascade of song, and then by a host of other natural forms.
