Restaurant Po Che has been creating delicious Chinese dishes for patrons of Marshalswick’s The Quadrant for more than 30 years.

On July 29 the owners announced on Facebook that they would be retiring and the takeaway would be closing down.

The post said: “It is with a heavy heart that Po Che has decided to close its doors after 31 years of trading.

“The owners have decided to take a well earned and over due retirement.

“We would like to thank all our customers past and present for their loyalty over the years.”

The post has been widely shared, with about 120 emotional comments in response to the news.

Rob Hartles said: “The best crispy beef for miles around. Never a bad meal from here will be sad to see it go.”

Nicola Diplock added: “Christmas Eve won’t be the same without you. Long and happy retirement.”

Trish Kirikal said: “30 years of takeaways and never a bad meal...I’m gutted your [sic] closing but thank you so much for all your hard work over the years. Happy retirement x”

Patrons raved about numerous dishes, including the crispy chilli beef, salt and pepper prawns, and large pancake rolls.

“Sorry to hear you’re going. If I’d seen this a week ahead of closure, I would have bought a final takeaway as a parting gesture. Enjoy your retirement!,” added Chris Jack.

The restaurant owners directed anyone interested in leasing the now-vacant building to Kings Estate Agent in Hatfield.

Carol Vousden said: “Thank you for the best Chinese takeaway I’ve ever had. Enjoy your well deserved retirement.”

Colin Rowe added: “So sad. Thanks for all the many great feasts I’ve had from you.”

The Quadrant is a lively hub of restaurants and takeaways, with Po Che’s neighbours including The Ridgeway Fish Bar for a traditional seaside meal, KFC, Indian restaurant the Spice Hut, cafe Molen’s, and relative newcomer The Kebab Shop.
