The new president of the Harpenden Village Rotary Club is a woman entrenched in the community.

IT consultant Liz Jack has been a local scout leader for 22 years, as well as a trustee, shop manager, and training advisor for the young people’s movement.

She moved to Harpenden 30 years ago and then to Redbourn a decade ago, and has been involved with the rotary club for six years, becoming instrumental to the annual car show, Classics on the Common.

In her presidential year, Liz is looking to engage with more schools and promote competitions such as Young Photographer and Youth Speaks.

Liz said: “One of our biggest aims is to raise money for charity, and we just had the Classics on the Common which broke records with how much money we raised, so it has been a really good start to my year.

“I am very pleased because this is a fabulous organisation.”

Recently we, as a family (minus two of the kids), visited The Lodge RSPB reserve in Sandy, Bedfordshire. I had never been before, which is perhaps amiss of me as a birdwatcher as it is the headquarters of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds or RSPB and only 45 minutes drive from home.
