THIEVES stole a cash box containing a large amount of money from a Harpenden bank on Tuesday night after following security staff into the building.

The robbery at the Abbey in the High Street was carried out by a gang at about 10.40pm. Though they threatened the security staff, no-one was hurt in the incident and no weapons were used.

Police appealing for witnesses and information about the robbery and have asked people to contact Pc Amy Palmer on 0845 3300222.

She said: "We are eager to speak to anyone who was in Harpenden town centre at the time who either saw the incident or anything suspicious around that time.

Recently we, as a family (minus two of the kids), visited The Lodge RSPB reserve in Sandy, Bedfordshire. I had never been before, which is perhaps amiss of me as a birdwatcher as it is the headquarters of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds or RSPB and only 45 minutes drive from home.
