With temperatures this week set to bounce back up to 30C, St Albans council has issued advice to anyone concerned about homeless people outside in the heat.

The council’s head of housing Karen Dragovic said: “Hot weather can be challenging for people who are homeless as they are often outdoors during the warmest hours of the day.

“With temperatures set to soar again to 30C in the next few days, we are asking residents concerned about rough sleepers in St Albans district to refer them to Hightown’s Open Door night shelter for advice and support.

“Open Door can provide people sleeping rough with water, sun lotion and after-sun cream and sign-post them to sheltered places where they can stay out of the sun during the day.”

The Open Door shelter is located on Bricket Road and anyone concerned about a rough sleeper can report them via opendoorstalbans@hightownha.org.uk, along with a description of the individual and details of their location.
