AS the largest arts, entertainment and sports facilities provider in the district, Leisure Connection, are taking a full part in this year's Residents First Weekend on January 28 and 29 by offering two for one, or reduced rates on activities in all its venues. The company's area manager Phil Steel said: "Leisure Connection is delighted to be a part of Residents First Weekend. It really is a great opportunity to be able to provide the community with a range of fun activities in partnership with the local authority. We hope that everyone will come and take advantage of the chance to try something new." The following is an overview of what is happening across nine Leisure Connection sites but if you want more specific information - times, details of the different fitness sessions etc - then phone the venue you wish to visit, on the numbers given. n Alban Alban Arena, Civic Square, St Albans. Tel: 01727 844488 Come and pick up a voucher from the Arena box office or the Residents First information point on Saturday, January 28, offering two tickets for the price of one for any film shown before March 31this year. n Batchwood Golf and Tennis Centre, Batchwood Drive, St Albans Tel: 01727 844250 Gym/Fitness Classes/Squash, Outdoor Tennis - "£1 Specials": Anyone turning up without a booking for these activities can access them for £1 over the weekend Golf - "Two for one": Two people play for the price of one if they turn up and play over the weekend Cafe - "Two meals for £5": Anyone using the cafe can get a discount off "specials" listed for the weekend. n Bricket Wood Sports Centre, Smug Oak Lane, Bricket Wood. The Leisure Connection Event is just one of many happening over The St Albans City & District Residents First Weekend. Recently we, as a family (minus two of the kids), visited The Lodge RSPB reserve in Sandy, Bedfordshire. I had never been before, which is perhaps amiss of me as a birdwatcher as it is the headquarters of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds or RSPB and only 45 minutes drive from home.
