A SEX shop in Hertford is to start selling off its remaining stock at half price after announcing it is to close down, the Herald can exclusively reveal.

Wendy Stevenson, who owns SWALK Adult Store, in Market Place, has decided to call it a day after five years in the town.

Ms Stevenson said that the pressures of running another business meant she was unable to keep the Hertford branch going. She also said that by switching to trading online she would save £5,000-a-year on a licence.

She told the Herald: “It is sad to be closing as I have enjoyed the last five years as a retail owner in Hertford, however another business of mine is taking up so much time that I can not give as much attention to the shop as I should. We will still operate on-line, but as the end of my lease is near it was decided not to renew the retail outlet.”

Ms Stevenson took a swipe at the Government to help small businesses in the recession “with some sort of relief” but, she said “that didn’t happen”.

The closure will temporarily leave another empty retail unit in the town, but Ms Stevenson added: “We have had interest in the shop from prospective tenants and I am sure it will not be empty for very long.”

Thanking her loyal band of Hertford customers she said: “I hope to see you on-line at www.swalkadultstore.com.”
