Sainsbury’s in Harpenden has raised more than £8,000 for Guide Dogs UK as part of a charity partnership.

The charity was chosen for the Sainsbury’s partnership in 2016, and over the past year the store has been raising awareness and funds, reaching £8,460.96 in total.

Staff and customers took part in a range of activities to raise money, including book and cake sales. The money raised will be used to train future guide dog puppies, one of which will be named by the store.

Sainsbury’s Harpenden store manager Gary Watkin said: “We’ve really enjoyed working with Guide Dogs UK over the past 12 months.

“Our customers and colleagues worked really hard to help raise vital funds for the charity and we’re really proud with everything we’ve achieved.”

At the end of June, customers were given the chance to vote in store and online for the new charity partner, with Support Dogs UK receiving the most votes.

Recently we, as a family (minus two of the kids), visited The Lodge RSPB reserve in Sandy, Bedfordshire. I had never been before, which is perhaps amiss of me as a birdwatcher as it is the headquarters of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds or RSPB and only 45 minutes drive from home.
