The Harpenden Society will be holding a talk on the history and the future of the Public Halls.

The public meeting will be held on Thursday, December 7, with mulled wine and mince pies.

Organised in partnership with the Harpenden History Society, the talk will focus on the history of the halls.

Recently the Halls have hosted the pantomine.

In addition, with the upcoming closure of the facility in 2020, Society member Tim Riley will speak about what will replace it.

The Rothamsted Park redevelopment will include a theatre as well as a new sports centre.

The designs for the culture centre were exhibited to the public earlier this year.

However what will become of the Public Halls building is not yet known.

It has been speculated they could be turned into housing.

The talk is being held at Harpenden’s Park Hall, with doors opening at 7.30pm for an 8pm start.

One of my favourite summer activities as a child was pond-dipping. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a house with a fairly large pond in the garden and so my pond-dipping activities often extended over days and weren’t as much dipping as a thorough exploration of the life in the pond.
