Flood repairs in St Albans criticised after drivers forced to drive through water on A405

Flood repairs to a southern area of St Albans have been criticised after drivers were forced to ford a nearby A-road.

The A405 near to Noke Lane was flooded yesterday after heavy rainfall throughout the day.

The Herts Advertiser previously covered Noke Lane after a poorly-kept drain caused 20m of the road to be flooded, including on a blind bend.

Neighbor Derek Wyllie has now come forward to ask: “How long does it take to unblock a drain?

“A main A-road being flooded in both lanes is unbelievable.”

Highways are maintained for the county council by Ringway, whose divisional manager, Kevin Carrol, said: “We are aware of the drainage issues on the A405 near Noke Lane, and dug out the gullies in the area earlier this year.

“Unfortunately, this has not solved the flooding that occurs when we have prolonged heavy rain, so we are planning to jet clean and camera survey the underground pipework to ascertain if any further work is required. This will take place later this year.”
