THE EAST of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) attended two collisions this morning, Wednesday, at Harpenden and Wheathampstead.

An 85-year-old man was lucky to escape injury after crashing his car into the front window of Tesco Express.

EEAST spokesman Gary Sanderson said the man was checked by paramedics but did not need to be taken to hospital following the accident on the High Street, which took place at around 6.42am.

Gary added that the elderly man had had a “lucky escape”.

A spokeswoman for Herts Police said the man’s vehicle, a Renault Mégane, had to be recovered from the front of the shop as it had also hit railings.

At 9am, a man was hospitalised following a collision with a stationary vehicle at Pickford Hill in Harpenden.

A rapid response paramedic from Harpenden attended the scene.

Gary said: “The man received slight injuries following the collision and he was conveyed to Luton and Dunstable hospital for further care.”
