A RECORD 95 per cent of all results at St Albans School were at A*, A or B grade and an impressive 70 per cent were at A* or A.

Andrew Grant, headmaster of the school at Abbey Gateway, congratulated the Upper Sixth students on their “exceptional” results.

He said: “In an era of ever-increasing competition for places at the best universities, I am delighted to see how well our students, through a combination of native talent, hard work and excellent teaching, have risen to the challenge of securing the top grades.”

Among those who did well were Sam Eley and Alex Goldstone, from St Albans, Samantha Magnus of Radlett and Chris Stobart, from Gustard Wood, each of whom recorded three A* grades and a further A at A level.

Chris Milsted, of Harpenden, went one better with an additional A* in the Extended Project qualification.

However these results were topped by Philip Ruis, from St Albans, who received four A* grades and another in the Extended Project, to confirm his place to read natural sciences at Emmanuel College, Cambridge.

George Tasker, from Harpenden, got four A* grades to confirm his place to read economics at Durham.

Overall, 58 students achieved at least one A* and sixty-seven achieved three A grades or better.
