Earthworks are opening their doors at Hixberry Lane, St Albans, from midday to 3pm this Saturday (26) for an open day and Christmas fair.

The charity, which provides work experience and training in horticultural and land-based skills, will offer homemade crafts, mince pies and spiced apple juice as well as a chance to stroll around the site and meet Santa. Admission is free.

Recently we, as a family (minus two of the kids), visited The Lodge RSPB reserve in Sandy, Bedfordshire. I had never been before, which is perhaps amiss of me as a birdwatcher as it is the headquarters of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds or RSPB and only 45 minutes drive from home.
