St Albans South Signal Box was pleased to welcome Radio 4 comedian John Finnemore back to the historic building as part of their Heritage Open Day 2017 event.

A sketch inspired by the city’s signal box, called Wroxton Box, was broadcast on John Finnemore’s Double Acts show on July 12, with Michael Palin.

The witty short featured sound effects recorded on site - including bells ringing and lever pulling.

John came back to thank the Signal Box Trust members for their help, as well as gifting them a signed picture and making a donation to the Trust.

Recently we, as a family (minus two of the kids), visited The Lodge RSPB reserve in Sandy, Bedfordshire. I had never been before, which is perhaps amiss of me as a birdwatcher as it is the headquarters of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds or RSPB and only 45 minutes drive from home.
