A St Albans primary school has ranked in the country's top 200 for times tables.

The Abbey CE VA Primary School, in Grove Road, received a letter from the Minister of Schools congratulating the school on its success in a recent Multiplication Tables Check (MTC).

During the test, children are tasked with recalling 25 multiplication and division facts which run all the way to 12 x 12.

The Abbey CE VA Primary School scored an average of 24.4 out of 25, placing the setting in the top one per cent in the country.

The Rt Hon Damian Hinds MP wrote: “I would like to congratulate your staff and pupils for their hard work and to thank you for your leadership in continuing to promote the important subject of mathematics.

The school's headteacher, Mrs Linda O’Melia, added: "We were absolutely delighted to receive the letter from The Rt Hon Damian Hinds MP.
