SIR, - I have heard through the grapevine that a third charity shop is coming to Southdown, Harpenden. Personally I feel the the two shops we already have are enough. Would it not be good to see the rehousing of the post office in Southdown rather than an additional charity shop. Maybe one of the charity shops could show some charity to the post office and give them a new home in a charity shop.

It's also interesting to count how many charity shops are in the town now, and interesting to think that there must be substantial monies being generated to pay for rent, rates, staff, admin etc. No offence to local charity shop businesses but I do feel our post office in Southdown should take priority to help it remain in a much-needed small community.
