OVER a thousand runners swapped a Sunday morning lay-in for taking part in the first-ever Herts 10k Challenge in aid of the Grove House day hospice in St Albans.
The run began and ended at Rothamsted in Harpenden and more than 60 volunteers helped with marshalling and other duties as the 1050 runners tackled the course which took them through swathes of countryside.
The weather was gorgeous for early October and the day was declared a huge success by everyone who took part.
The aim is to turn the 10k, which was sponsored by St Albans company Levy Associates with the Herts Advertiser as its media partner, into an annual event. It is expected to raise thousands of pounds for Grove House.
