EDITORIAL - herts.advertiser@archant.co.uk
A MOBILE phone company wants to put a mast within 100 metres of a primary school and nursery.

O2 has submitted a planning application to St Albans District Council for the 12.5 metre mast in Shenley Lane, London Colney, near the junction of Walsingham Way where St Bernadette's Roman Catholic Primary School is located.

The mast, which would double as a street lamp, will replace one at O2's site at the Central Motor Auctions Ltd which is to be decommissioned at the request of the owner of the site.

But London Colney district councillor and governor at St Bernadette's, Malcolm Macmillan, said that both London Colney Parish council and the school strongly objected to the mast and would oppose the application.

He said: "The mast is a great worry to the councillors and governors alike. The research on the effect of the masts is inconclusive but it is very close to the school which also has a nursery. There will be a chance for local people to object during the application process.
