Oaklands College
Sponsors of the Training and Development Award
Oaklands College has campuses in St Albans, Welwyn Garden City, Borehamwood and Smallford. The Smallford site will soon see the construction of a major new state-of-the-art centre.
Oaklands offers almost 1500 vocational and academic courses to more than 18000 students across the county. It has an established reputation for delivering work-based and distance-learning programmes, designed to meet the needs of the learner and the business objectives of employers.
"The fact that our employees have been able to study toward programmes on a distance learning basis is fantastic. They have been able to improve their skills, gain recognised qualifications and improve their knowledge in areas vital to their day-to-day job. All this without even having to step out of the work place." Paul Lewis, Management Trainer - Herts Fire and Rescue.
Business@Oaklands (The business unit at Oaklands College) helps employers to build the skills of the workforce: professional industry- experienced trainers provide an extensive range of courses. These include Skills for Life, Languages, Management Skills, Employment Law, Health and Safety, Engineering, Green Keeping and many others.
"We have been working with Oaklands for 14 years and have always found the tutors extremely supportive. We find that our staff become more effective in their skills after their courses. The programmes also help to improve morale as staff feel they are doing something that will help advance their careers." John Wells, Estate and Golf Operations Manager - Brocket Hall Golf Club.
But if our courses do not precisely match client needs, Business@Oaklands can develop client bespoke training. This is tailor-made to suit clients’ specific needs and can be delivered where and when they want it.
"Oaklands is an exceptionally user-friendly college. We are especially pleased with the effort the college trainers make to be flexible. Other colleges treated us as though we were trying to fit square pegs into round holes, but Oaklands adapted their training to exactly fit our needs. I am very happy with the progress the lads are making and with the feedback we have seen. In fact, I am more than happy with all my dealings with Oaklands." Peter O’Grady Managing Director T.F. Tull Engineering.
Training courses can be any length from ‘bite-size’ lasting a few hours, to a full level 3 NVQ or a foundation degree taking two years. Oaklands clients vary in size too: from small employers with a couple of staff, to large public service organisations like the local councils. Business@Oaklands experts train employees at major private sector organisations. These currently include Roche Products, Tesco, Ocado, Cereal Partners and T-Mobile.
Business@oaklands is also offering companies a FREE new service – TRAIN TO GAIN. This government funded initiative allows employees aged 19 and over to study for a Level 2 qualification if they have not already done so. The qualification would normally be in a subject relevant to their day to day work and so will enable employers to develop a more highly skilled workforce
Oaklands Business is Training and Development, which is why the college is delighted to sponsor this award.
